Out and about with volunteers

THERE'S a chance to join Kirklees Countryside Volunteers on a series of walks, or key tasks, during July.

Saturday July 3: Clitheroe Kid! - an eight-mile medium walk. Meet Susan at 10am at Honley Railway Station Friday July 9:ASample Of The Spen Fame Trail - a four-mile easy themed walk. Meet Nigel at 7pm at the car park by the Town Hall, Bradford Road, Cleckheaton. This trail has been devised by Spen Valley Civic Society to honour local celebrities - road and field walking.

Sunday July 11: Drystone walling. Meet at 9.45 am at Kirklees Light Railway Station, Park Mill Way, Clayton West. Journey on Kirklees Light Railway before carrying out conservation work on a line-side wall. Wednesday July 14: Evening On The Moors - a four-mile walk. Meet Oliver at 7pm at Buckstones car park, New Hey Road. Possibly boggy.

Saturday July 17: Dawdling Back Through Deffer - 13-mile linear, train walk. Meet Tony at 9.05 am at Barnsley Railway Station for a walk on lanes and paths, finishing at Shepley Station..

Wednesday July 21: Three Bs Replica Aviatrix - a four-mile medium walk. Meet Margaret at 6.45pm at St. Paul's Church, Bradford Road , Birkenshaw for a mix of urban and rural paths - and a delightful duck pond.

Sunday July 25: Stepping Out To Sculptures - an eight-mile medium walk. Meet David at 10.30 am in the car park behind the Post Office, Church Street, Emley. With lunch at Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Thursday July 29: Dungeon Wood - a five-mile easy walk. Meet Susan at 7pm at Beaumont Park top entrance for walk in park and local paths.

Saturday July 31: Escape To Scape - a four-mile medium walk. Meet Oliver at 2pm by the war memorial at the junction of Swallow Lane and Leymoor Road, Town End, Golcar. Varied vistas on this afternoon stroll in the unspoilt Longwood Valley. A few climbs, but taken at an easy pace.
